Riders:
The Best Dam Bike Ride takes place in Wisconsin, and the route takes Team Roux from Milwaukee to Madison, with an overnight in the hellishly-hot dorms at UW-Whitewater. This year’s riders include Tom, Ethan, Maurice, Kurt – transitioning from volunteer to rider, and newcomers Guy and Nick. This year’s topography took some getting used to [read: we all hated the hills]. Whereas Colorado had a few hills, and then long climbs at a low gradient, Wisconsin offered nothing but rolling hills through farm land.
Each team member fought through their own individual challenges. Tom, Ethan, and Maurice were adapting to the new course; Kurt was making the mental transition to rider; Guy learned how to properly shift gears (about half way through the first day); and Nick – being of somewhat more generous proportions – learned how to shift gears very quickly or risk not making it up hills.
